About the Office of Student Research
- Established in January 2020 to promote access to Learn by Doing Research, the Cal Poly Office of Student Research (OSR) is designed to:
- Increase transparency of access for student research opportunities in all disciplines
- Work with campus partners to enhance existing student research programs and build capacity in new areas
- Support the professional development of mentors and mentees, with a focus on diversity, equity, inclusion, justice & access
- Increase the funding available to support student research
- Develop, test, and integrate meaningful metrics that measure outcomes and impact
Opportunities for Professional Development & Leadership
- Assist or lead the coordination, communication, and/or implementation of events, including:
- CSU Student Research Competition
- Cal Poly Internal Competition, 2/23-2/24/24
- CSU-wide Competition, 4/26-4/27/24
- Cal Poly’s participation in the National Conference on Undergraduate Research (NCUR), 4/8-4/10/24
- Open House, 4/11-4/13/24
- Cal Poly’s Celebration of National Undergraduate Research Week, 5/20-5/24/24
- CSU Student Research Competition
- Support students, faculty, and professional research staff engaged in or seeking to engage in mentored research and creative activity, including via
- Professional Development Workshops
- 1:1 and Group Advising (in-person and virtual)
- Provide support for management of the Student Research Hub (38-101)
- Participate in relevant OSR team meetings, trainings and events
- Other opportunities, as identified
Qualifications:
- Enrolled in a Cal Poly post-baccalaureate program (including blended students with graduate student standing)
- Self-motivated and creative
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- Possess strong organizational skills and the ability to multi-task
- Preferred:
- Prior or current student research experience and/or
- Prior or current mentoring experience and/or
- Demonstrated interest and/or expertise in diversity, equity, inclusion, justice & access
Fellowship Amount:
- Graduate Fellowship $2,500/quarter – this amount is designed to make it possible for you to participate in the fellowship for 8-10 hours per week in Winter & Spring 2024 quarters
- Note: We are currently recruiting for Winter & Spring 2024; the fellowship may continue, if the student remains interested and enrolled, through Summer 2024 and/or AY 2024-25
